SIT DOWN: MUSE Headphones

MUSE is a new lifestyle headphone line coming from the land down under. Sara Su sits down with us to bring us up to speed with what they are up to.

Can you give the readers a little background behind MUSE?
MUSE is a Melbourne-based headphone company established in late 2009. It’s the collective idea of an entrepreneur, a gadgeteer, a communicator and a designer.

Who makes up the team?
I am one of the Company Directors and am what you may call a big thinker. I am as passionate about bringing new ideas to market as I am about cake and miniature breeds of dog. My management and business development experience in the Apple reseller has provided me with a wealth of knowledge that has proved invaluable in building the MUSE brand.

Peter Lay is also a Company Director and technology lover. With as keen an eye as any Sharon Stone fan, Peter’s understanding of technology and trends has allowed MUSE to stay at the forefront of the headphones market.

Robbie Coleman is the Director of Communications and a bow-tie aficionado. He can talk, and talk well. If he can say it in under 30 words, he will.

Cedric Austria is the Creative Director. He is the Karl Largerfeld of headphone design, without the ponytail or hard-out demeanour. Down to the very last detail, Cedric ensures we look our best.

Why jump into the headphone business?
Out of sheer frustration. We are Identifying the opportunity to fill the void in the dull headphones market, MUSE developed a range of 12 quirky headphones, each with different personalities – just like the people who wear them! The one-size fits all mentality need exist no longer!

What makes you guys different?
No one looks at technology the same way we do. We’re making technology fun and personal again. People don’t care about tech jargon, they just want something that looks good, sounds good and at an affordable price. That’s what we deliver, all for under $60.

Everyone says not to sweat over the small stuff – but like a midget on a tiny treadmill, we can’t help it! After all, it’s the attention to detail that makes MUSE stand out. We believe in adding value where our competitors don’t - from customised silicon buds to a protective pouch, it’s the small things that our customers appreciate.

What is your design approach?
Quirky, clean and fun, just like us! We wanted our products to stand out, to compel consumers to touch them, prod them and ultimately, give them a try. And behold - it worked!

What do you guys have planned next?
New headphones, new projects, and, most importantly, new friendships.

What collaborations do you have in the works?
Currently working on a few at the moment which involves Pro Skaters, a Lifestyle Magazine and a car designer. Sorry i can say much more at the moment but you will be the first to know.

When are you going to hit US soil?
Funny you ask this. You would not believe how hard it is to find a good distributor in the US. We would like nothing more than to break into the US market, so if someone wants to pick up the line, hit us up.

Thanks to Sara for giving us the low down on MUSE. Their mix of materials is fire, like the wood detail on the Carpenter buds (pic below). Check out all their styles at http://www.museaudio.com.au/.
