Case-Mate x Blood is the New Black x Coolhaus — The Summer Fling Truck

Fashion and art powerhouse Blood Is The New Black announced a partnership with I Make My Case, a division of case-mate, which is a forward thinking provider and designer of mobile accessories, and Coolhaus' custom ice cream sandwiches to help Angelinos beat the heat with the Summer Fling Truck. Debuting on June 5 with a party at the Nomad Gallery (a collective art compound in Los Angeles), the Summer Fling Truck will trek across Los Angeles selling limited-edition Blood Is The New Black Ts, case-mate (I Make My Case) accessories and exclusive Coolhaus treats.


“This idea came to me while I was at an art event buying a taco from a food truck that was outside the gallery,” said Mitra Khayyam founder/curator of Blood Is The New Black, who works with independent artists to create the designs for the company’s iconic tees.

“I realized I wanted to bring my tees to fans as easily as I was getting my taco, right there on the curb. Partnering with I Make My Case and Coolhaus just made sense. We are all about summer, being outside, shopping, eating and more importantly, having fun.”

To celebrate the collaboration Blood Is the New black and case-mate have swapped their extensive list of artists who create the designs for their respective products. Blood Is The New Black artists Keren Richter and Peter and Joyelle Komierowski (husband/wife) will create limited-edition designs for the case-mate products sold on the truck. Vice versa, artists Shadow Chen and Chuck Anderson will lend their hand from the case-mate repertoire. “Whether through t-shirts, cases or even ice cream preferences, case-mate wants to support the right to self-expression," said Erik Attkisson, CMO of case-mate. “Our partners in fun bring together the best of what ‘finding the artist within each of us’ is all about.”

After working up a sweat shopping, hungry revelers can cool off with a Coolhaus ice cream sandwich.

“The Summer Fling Truck will revolutionize retail as we know it," said Natasha Case founder/owner of Coolhaus. “Taking the 'taco truck' or ice cream truck concept and co-opting it into mobile fashion could inspire other industries to go mobile as well. We are speaking to our Echo Park community and showcasing all of the creativity that is coming from this area.”

The Summer Fling Truck can be seen cruising through Los Angeles until the end of September, constantly rotating their stock of Tees, case-mate products, and Coolhaus ice cream flavors.

KICKS: NEW BALANCE REISSUES RECORD-SETTING 205 RACING SHOE

New Balance taps its strong running heritage with the reissue of the New Balance 205 the racing shoe, named in honor of US Marathoner Khalid Khannouchi’s then world record of 2:05:42 set in the Chicago Marathon in 1999. Khalid later wore the RC205WR when he bettered his time to 2:05:38 during the 2002 London Marathon. This time still stands as an American Record for the 26.2 mile distance.


At 7.8 ounces, the 205 provides comfort and exceptional fit in a sleek, contoured design. Originally designed as the most premium racing sneaker of the era, the 205 featured New Balance’s most advanced running technology including: Abzorb cushioning in the heel for comfort on the heel strike, Acteva Midsole (12% lighter weight midsole than a traditional EVA midsole), utilization of a synthetic leather/mesh upper for an ultra light weight, breathable upper that hugs the foot, and low profile dimensions to keep this responsive running shoe as close to the ground as possible.

The reissued New Balance 205 will feature a Masai tribal shield in honor of the Kenyan athletes representing New Balance to victory in the 2003 and 2004 Boston, Chicago, and London marathons.

The New Balance 205 will be available at Conveyor at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, CA which just hosted the West Coast Launch of the New Balance Sonic Collection last week. A special wall was built for the party with a built in theremin, a special antenna-like electronic musical instrument which uses the proximity of a hand to alter the pitch and volume of a pure sine wave. The theremin added some extra fun and interactive “sonic” component as consumers approach the product shelf.

The idea behind this came about due to increasing amount of requests from their International fans and distributors to create a shirt that would feature girls and their favorite sport. I really like the Termaine Tank with the white contrast pocket over the striped tank. This is a must for the Summer. Buy it ($29) at Karmaloop.


When I posted the behind the scene clip I wrote about a striped knit top with a dope pocket detail. Well, I was wrong about it being stripes, but the pocket detail is still dope in this still. The model in the middle is wearing it.

Polos are another Summer essential and the black contrast collar and sleeve rib mix well with this red stripe knit.

NookaNooka Artist Series Pt. 2

Nooka has teamed up with legendary artists and toy designers Mad Barbarians, Veggiesomething, Matthew Waldman and retail boutique Room322 to commemorate the release of the 2nd artist series of mini NookaNookas.

Created by Waldman, the NookaNooka is an urban vinyl collector’s toy, but more importantly acts as a representative for the Nooka brand. Not only is it made of similar materials as other Nooka products, it also represents our innovative approach to design, pushing the limits of creativity and changing the way people think about objects.

The NookaNooka’s physiology is transient, eternal in his world and ephemeral in ours – beyond imagination – like something you are told is not real, like something you can’t taste, but can feel. Mad Barbarians, Veggiesomething, Room322 and Matthew Waldman displayed their artistic talent by designing their own unique and custom mini NookaNooka collabs.
