It's the middle of the Summer and what does that mean? Retailers are starting to get their Fall 1 deliveries already, so what I have done is mix some Fall 1 Delivery pieces with existing Summer pieces. The two standouts here are the Altamont A. RECAP: LA Street Food Fest

This past weekend brought together food lovers across Los Angeles at the Rose Bowl for the first annual LA Street Food Fest. There were about one hundred vendors serving up food, ice cream, clothing, crafts, and tequila.

I do wish that the event had all of the food vendors cooking out of the trucks and serving to the customers to give us the true food truck vibe. It could have been done along the outer concourse or on the outside park area, instead of on the field. This would have allowed us to truly tie the food and the truck together.

Other than that is was a great sunny day of food and music. Here are some highlights:

The Summer Fling Truck holding it down near the entrance.

Crowds and crowds.

These were my favorite food vendors of the afternoon. Border Grill, Mariscos Jalisco Truck (won best in show), Nana Queen's (best cream of corn I have ever had), and the Grilled Cheese Truck (pulled pork/mac & cheese sandwhich, enough said).

Ended the night at the outside pavillion to buy a t-shirt and grab some ice cream from Cool Haus.

KICKS: HIGHS

There are some solid high tops to keep an eye on for Fall and they are taking on a more classic athletic silhouette.

1. Clae’s recently released Baylor updates a classic high top basketball sneaker. There is even a perforated circle detail on the ankle, which takes influence from the iconic star patch on the Chuck Taylor high top.

2. Creative Recreation's Solano ($100) adds technical elements to their high top with ankle flaps to provide extra support, while also adding a classic circle patch on the ankle. (BUY IT)

3. Following the Valenzuela Lo, Johnson Lo, and Johnson Mid, The Hundreds add a high top to their footware collection. What is nice is the simplicity of the style, no crazy bells and whistles here. This will never be "out of style"

4. PF Flyers has evolved their classic Center Hi by adding a double tongue. Dubbed the PF Flyers Double Tongue, this sneaker has twin leather tongues that are pierced for laces and flip to reveal color. It also has full grain leather detailing from eyerow to toecap and a stitch detail of the PF Flyers heritage chevron on the side of the shoe.

KICKS: New Balance Reintroduces the 320 Sneaker

For the fall 2010 season, New Balance Lifestyle is reintroducing the popular heritage running 320 silhouette for the first time since the 1970s. Originally released in 1976 for men and in 1978 for women, the 320 was revolutionary for its time and changed the course of New Balance history.

The 320 was light, colorful and oozed performance. The 320 catapulted the brand to the forefront of modern athletic shoe design and was the first New Balance silhouette to sport the “N” logo. This style had traditional New Balance elements like a long vamp and saddle construction, augmented by a new Astrocrepe® outsole and nylon upper for greater performance and lightweight comfort.

True to when it originally launched in 1976, this 320 will feature a soft-one-piece upper, unique arch-support saddle and durable, protective sole/wedge/midsole combination and is available for men and women in three colors: black, grey and blue.

GRUB: CHEGO!

CHEGO!
3300 Overland Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90034
http://www.eatchego.com/

Little did I know that down the street from my house, in a forgotten strip mall, lived a vibrant new restaurant; “CHEGO!”. Developed by Roy Choi, the master mind behind Kogi Truck and the recent recipient of Food and Wine's Best New Chef of 2010, Chego! serves up some awesome rice bowls.

When you first step in, it is like walking into the mind and world of Roy. The walls have two shelves and are littered with memorabilia from a Pee Wee Herman doll to trinkets from travels, and my personal favorite the Christina Aguilera lunch pail. See if you can find it when you are there. You will also find Roy’s Food and Wine Best New Chef award.

The space is cozy and you will quickly become great friends with the other diners as the dining setup are benches and long tables, very similar to one of my favorite places Wurstkuche.

The food is bold and full of flavor as Roy takes the concept of rice bowls and puts his spin on it. My favorites are the Ooey Gooey Fries and One Chubby Pork Belly.

When asked how he came up with the name he says, "Chego loosely means 'thumbs up' in Korean. It's like when your mouth is full and your grandmother asks how her food is, you just give her a thumbs up."
